Minutes from March 4, 2008 meeting

Attendance: Eliza Buck,Elaine Kendall, Susie Pingree (at large), Madden Surbagh, Peggy Weir, Rob Waldron, Megan Jones (at large), Bruce Gregory, Rebecca Moore, Jane Burton-Bell, Cloud Oakes (at large), Denise King (SVC), Christine Miller (Fair Board), Rick Hughes (by phone), David Baumeister (by phone)

Consensus based meeting

Vision Statement

Continued discussion between choices B and D. Elaine will continue to refine and send out for comment.

Introductions of New Members

Cloud Oakes, Suzy Pingree, Megan Jones, Denise King, Christine Miller.
E-mail list to be updated with these names.

Chair position

Elaine and Peggy to be Co-chairs.

Board tenure

Elaine will determine, to accommodate needs, by e-mail or phone.

Business Plan Status

Decided should be in realm of Project Manager, when hired.

Web site

Suzy Pingree will create web site, assisted by Peggy Weir. Pledge of $100 from Orcas Farmers’ Market should cover domain fee for one year.
SJIAgGuild.com available name.

Paperwork

Eliza, Elaine and Madden to meet with Cathy Cavanaugh to file papers. Cathy indicated we are able to open checking account and receive donations. Jane to check with ARC to see if we can use ARC PO Box. Organizations involved will be asked to donate to Guild to create a working kitty (Orcas FM pledged $100, Elaine Kendall donated cost of ad for project manager)

Grant Proposals

Two grant proposals have been funneled through NWABC. Should hear late March about Rural Business Enterprise Grant, asking $65,00 to hire project manager,and pay for feasibility study. Community Food Project Grant is dependent on passage of Farm Bill.
Due March 24th is USDA Farmers’ Market Promotion Program Grant. Eliza will look at proposal with assistance from Hawkins Pingree,but unlikely to submit proposal due to timeframe for both grant and hiring process for Project Manager.

Fundraiser

Suzy Pingree offered housing for Vance Corum. Jane will extend offer.
Madden described 5 course dinner, $100 per person , local food and wine, up to 44 people on either May 15th or 18th, to be decided by Vance’s schedule

Farmers Market Meeting March 15th

Representatives will give concise report of Ag Guild in order to foster smooth communication between the two groups. Will connect interested vendors with SuzyPingree for inclusion on AG Guild web site. Will ask for donation from SJFMA for working kitty for Guild.

Project Manager

Two applications received. Hiring Committee formed Denise, Suzy and Elaine. Will work promptly and their recommendation will be forwarded to Guild members via e-mail to be voted on by e-mail or at a time Elaine will coordinate
